What is
Terrazzo?
Although it’s only recently found its way into our kitchens and bathrooms (and everywhere else), terrazzo has been around for some 500 years. Originating in Italy, terrazzo is the product of quarry workers using marble chips and leftovers to decorate their own home. But despite its humble beginnings, it soon became a far more high-end product thanks to its popularity in Venice, where it became known as Venetian terrazzo.
These days this vibrant, characterful material is created by forcing marble segments and Portland cement binders together under huge presses, to create resin terrazzo and cement terrazzo, using special resins to make strong, durable, and stylish tiles.
